Additional Parish Ministries

There are many ways to "Rise Up Now!" at St. Michael with different ministries that help to serve our parish community. Check out some of the ways you can get involved using your time and talents!

Garden Group

Our Gardening Group is an all-volunteer group that assists with the beautification of Parish grounds by maintaining the flowers and gardens. There are a number of ways you can participate in this group.

Our gardening teams are made up of people who adopt a specific garden area or bed and agree to care for that space throughout the season. With the direction of Mary Jo and Carol, the group leaders, volunteers plant, weed, water, and do whatever is necessary to care for their space. When combined with the work of other parishioners, the group keeps all the gardens on our grounds looking great. You don’t need any experience– just a love of gardening and a desire to pitch in!

Won’t you “Rise Up Now!” and help make our Parish grounds beautiful? Send Mary Jo and Carol an email for more information.

Historical Committee

The St. Michael The Archangel Church’s Historical Committee is dedicated to preserving, publishing, or otherwise making available to the Parish and the public any materials pertaining to events, persons, and organizations historically associated with St. Michael The Archangel Church.

The goal of the group is to make known the works of the Church by highlighting the accomplishments of the Parish – past, present, and future. Our group also highlights the work of our founding pastor, Rev. John P. Byrne, the other pastors who have followed, and our first parishioners who laid the foundation of today’s Parish. Together, our Parish has historically made a difference spreading the Good News in Worthington, OH and surrounding community.

Ladies in Waiting

Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity, but don’t have a lot of time to commit? Consider volunteering for Ladies in Waiting, a group of ladies who assist with weddings at St. Michael.

The time commitment would only be 1 ½ hours on Friday for the rehearsal and 2 hours on Saturday on the day of the wedding (the weddings are at 11 am or 1 pm) and you work in teams of two. There are approximately 9-12 weddings a year and you can volunteer for as few or as many as you like. The main function is to help the wedding couple in any way that ensures their wedding day runs as smoothly as possible so they can focus on the Sacrament of Matrimony.

What would I be doing?

  • At the rehearsal, you would assist the celebrant with anything he needs and show the bridal party where they will be dressing before the ceremony.
  • On the day of the wedding, you will be posting the signage around the church to direct the guests to the entrance, making sure crowds don’t gather in the narthex before the ceremony, helping the bride with any needs she or her party may have, guiding the florist & photographer, pinning corsages, just generally helping with anything the wedding party might want.
  • Making sure the wedding party is in place before the ceremony begins – Groom, Best Men, Ushers, Flower Girls, Ring Bearer, Parents of the couple, and then the Bride and her ladies.
If this sounds like something you would like to learn more about, please contact the Parish Office at (614) 885-7814 or by emailing [email protected]

Helping Hands

The Helping Hands group serves parishioners and their families during funeral gatherings by hosting a luncheon after the funeral, including providing meals, snacks, or other refreshments according to the needs of each situation. To get involved with our Helping Hands ministry, please contact the Parish Office at (614) 885-7814.

Homebound Ministry

St. Michael serves those who are unable to attend activities at the church by bringing the Holy Eucharist and other sacraments (Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick) to them. We regularly visit several area nursing and retirement homes to bring the Holy Eucharist.

If you would like to “Rise Up Now!” and help with this important ministry, please reach out to Sr. Riya Mary at [email protected]

We will also provide sacraments to any nearby nursing home, hospital, or residence upon request; please contact the Parish office to be added to the list by calling (614) 885-7814 or by emailing [email protected]

24-hour Sacramental Emergency help is also available. If you or someone you know has a Sacramental Emergency, please call (614) 885-7814 and select option 5 to be connected with someone who can assist you.

St. Ann's Altar Society

Members of St. Ann’s Altar Society keep St. Michael’s Church, Adoration Chapel clean throughout the year. Volunteers dust, tidy & organize and keep our Holy water & candles filled each week. Cleaning takes place primarily on Tuesdays (Adoration Chapel) & Fridays (Church) each week. No lifting or heavy-duty cleaning is required, just a willingness to help keep our church beautiful!
