“I invite all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting him encounter them; I ask all of you to do this unfailingly each day. No one should think that this invitation is not meant for him or her, since “no one is excluded from the joy brought by the Lord”. The Lord does not disappoint those who take this risk.” – Pope Francis
According to the National Study on Youth & Religion, 63% of US Catholic youth say that they have never experienced the love of Jesus. In addition, 92% of US Catholic youth say the Bible and Church teaching does not impact their daily moral decision-making. Further, 5 out of 6 young people confirmed in our parishes today will no longer be practicing their Catholic faith within 10 years of their Confirmation. Five out of six! Why is this happening? Is this what you want for your children?
But do not be afraid! We were given a solution and the solution is Jesus. “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6) Nothing in this life will fulfill us except for the love of Jesus. Jesus is captivating! No other name brings healing, joy, fulfillment, and peace. “At the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:10)
The Gospel is good news! The simplicity of the Gospel is not that we love God, but that God loves us. That He saw us covered in dirt and slime but saw in us a great treasure. That God became man, died for us, rises for us, calls us, and empowers us. “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)
Our one goal is to unleash the gospel. The Holy Spirit, who is the primary agent of evangelization, will do the rest. Saint Augustine said “The truth is like a lion; you don’t have to defend it. Let it loose; it will defend itself.” St. Michael’s youth ministry, “No Greater Love”, aims to create and execute a Jesus-centered and joy-filled program, “that (Jesus’) joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.” (John 15:11)
We need your support!
We work with a Core Team of young adult volunteers who are passionate about living to build God’s Kingdom to form Jesus-centered pastoral relationships with the high school students we serve. We are also in need of passionate Catholics to serve as Catechists by teaching Faith Formation courses for younger students preparing to receive Sacraments. If you are interested in partnering with the revival God is bringing in the hearts of young people either by serving on our Core Team or by serving as a Catechist for Faith Formation courses, please contact us to learn more about how you can support St. Michael’s Youth Movement.
