The Rescue Project is a program offered by ActsXXIX, a Catholic ministry founded and led by Fr. John Riccardo in the Archdiocese of Detroit. For more information about The Rescue Project in general, visit the FAQ page of RescueProject.us.
The Rescue Project focuses on a compelling approach to understanding and preaching the gospel (small “g” intentional) based upon a four-word story: Created, Captured, Rescued, and Response. After presenting a new story about the awesome loving power of God’s creation (Ep 1 & 2), we will investigate the reality of Satan’s presence and power here on Earth, (Ep 3 & 4). We will then see an innovative way of understanding the purpose of Christ’s humanity, crucifixion, and resurrection (Ep. 5 & 6), before turning to seeing our christian mission in a new light of the Holy Spirit that moved the first apostles.
Many episodes include some sensitive references to war, sexual abuse, human trafficking, and death of loved ones which may not be comfortable for some guests or appropriate for certain teenagers. Similarly, Fr. Riccardo briefly replays some scenes of Mel Gibson’s the Passion of the Christ to show the Roman forms of torture that Jesus endured in his scourging which again, may not be appropriate for all audiences.
There is no reading or homework between episodes, and consistent attendance (including the retreat day) is key to The Rescue Project. In the event you do miss an event, the episodes are available to watch online for free. However, the main benefits of the event are the social interaction during the meal and the small group discussion immediately following each episode.
A participant guide is not necessary, but is offered on RescueProject.us for download free of charge or for purchase of a printed guide. To obtain it, you must register separately with ActsXXIX, then under “Members,” select “Resources,” and the large blue image of “The Story Guide.” NOTE: Registration with ActsXXIX is NOT registration to attend the events at St. Michael.
