DEACON JOHN R. CRERAND, JCL

Permanent Deacon | Moderator of the Tribunal, Judge 1st and 2nd Instance Tribunal of Diocese of Columbus

John R. Crerand and his wife Mary have been members of St. Michael since relocating here in 1984.  Their three children graduated from St. Michael School and from Catholic high schools in the area.  Adults now, they pursue careers in the fields of psychology, education, and nursing.  Mary continues to work in higher education both as an administrator and a professor.  After completing the Diaconate School of Theology and being ordained to the Order of Deacon in 1992, Dcn. Crerand was assigned to St. Michael’s, where he was the Director of the RCIA Program for many years, and continues to assist the pastor by participating in a regular rotation for assisting at Mass, preaching, Baptisms, Marriage preparation, advising in annulment preparation, and other assignments, including the Finance Council.  Dcn. Crerand and Mary both bring Holy Communion to Catholic patients at Riverside Hospital on a regular basis.  After retiring from a 30 year career in the education of Deaf and Hard of Hearing youth, John began to work on marriage annulment cases in the diocesan Tribunal.  In 2011, he completed a canon law degree at Catholic University in Washington, DC.  Since then, he has worked in the Tribunal as Defender of the Bond, Judge in 1st and 2nd Instance, and as Moderator of the Tribunal.
