Respect Life

"The human being is single, unique, and unrepeatable, someone thought of and chosen from eternity, someone called and identified by name.”
Pope St. John Paul II

May - Blessed Boxes

During the month of May the Respect Life Committee will be offering Blessed Boxes.  Each wooden box will contain a crucifix, a rosary, a votive candle, blessed salt, holy water, and a St. Benedict medal. All items will be blessed prior to distribution.  To cover the cost of supplies the suggested donation is $20.  For planning purposes, we are asking that people pre-order.    Pre-orders are due March 15 and donations will be collected in May when the boxes are distributed.
Q292 What is a sacramental?  A. A sacramental is anything set apart or blessed by the Church to excite good thoughts and to increase devotion, and through these movements of the heart to remit venial sin.  (Baltimore, Third Plenary Council. Baltimore Catechism No. 2. Bronius Press LTD, 2006.
Sacramentals should be treated reverently, used with faith and not used with superstition.
Crucifix:  The crucifix is a reminder that Jesus shed His precious blood for our redemption.  You can display the crucifix in your home, keep it on a prayer table, or use it when you pray.
Holy Water:  Holy water is a reminder of our Baptism.  Using it can protect us from evil and forgive venial sins.  Holy water can be placed in your home in a holy water font or left in the bottle.
Blessed Salt:  Salt was highly valued in ancient times and it was used as a preservative.  Blessed salt is used to preserve us from the corruption of evil.  You can add blessed salt to holy water, sprinkle it in your car, or sprinkle it on your property.
Rosary:  The rosary is a special prayer that is recited while meditating on mysteries of the life of Jesus.  St. Padre Pio said, “The rosary is the ‘weapon’ for these times.”  St. Francis DeSales said, “The greatest method of praying is to pray the rosary.”  Each blessed box will contain a prayer booklet that explains exactly how to pray the rosary and which mysteries to meditate on.
St. Benedict Medal:  The St. Benedict medal is way to ask God for protection from evil through the intercession of St. Benedict.  You can carry it on your person, keep it in your car or house, wear it, or bury 4 medals at each corner of your property.
Blessed Candle:  Blessed candles are a reminder that Jesus is the light of the world.  They can be used during prayer or during storms.  They can also be lit to invoke the power of God to protect their home.

As a gift from God, every human life is sacred from conception to natural death.

The primary purpose of the St. Michael Respect Life Committee is to promote the Church’s teachings on the dignity of human life, as outlined in The Gospel of Life. We are ready to work together with our pastor to pray, educate, shape public policy, and provide concrete assistance to women in crisis pregnancies.

Each October, the Church in the United States celebrates Respect Life Month, and the first Sunday of October is observed as Respect Life Sunday. As Catholics, we are called to cherish, defend, and protect those who are most vulnerable, from the beginning of life to its end, and at every point in between. During the month of October, the Church asks us to reflect more deeply on the dignity of every human life.

Human Dignity

Human persons are willed by God; they are imprinted with God’s image. Their dignity does not come from the work they do, but from the persons they are. Pope John Paul II

Let not even one day pass without saying it, no matter how burdened you may be with many cares and labors.” -Pope Pius IX

Assisted Suicide & Euthanasia

CC2324  “Intentional euthanasia, whatever its forms or motives, is murder. It is gravely contrary to the dignity of the human person and to the respect due to the living God, his Creator.”

Catholic Catechism 2270 ” Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person – among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life.72

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.73

My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth.74″

Healing from Abortion

  • “With the friendly and expert help and advice of other people, and as a result of your own painful experience, you can be among the most eloquent defenders of everyone’s right to life. Through your commitment to life, whether by accepting the birth of other children or by welcoming and caring for those most in need of someone to be close to them, you will become promoters of a new way of looking at human life.

Post-Abortion Healing Ministries

It’s normal to grieve a pregnancy loss, including the loss of a child by abortion. It can form a hole in one’s heart, a hole so deep that sometimes it seems nothing can fill the emptiness.
